So, its time to think about selling your home. You have done a lot of living in your house; many pleasant memories exist there. But, perhaps the interior walls of your home have seen better days? You love the way you used a few of your favorite hues to brighten up your home. Maybe your kids have personalized their bedrooms a little too much. Or maybe your home just needs a fresh coat of paint to attract some desirable attention.
When putting your home on the real estate market, especially when the market is sluggish, it is important to make the most of your homes potential. Your home must be clean, inside and out. The interior of the home must show light and bright. The use of color needs to be subtle, yet appealing. Since ones color preference is based mainly on personal taste, using a neutral color palette is the best way to go when preparing your home for a sale.
The appropriate use of paint in your decorating scheme can perk up a dull and lackluster home interior. It can hide defects in the walls and ceiling. Paint can correct a lot of imperfections in the overall appearance of the home. The correct color of paint has the ability to enlarge even the smallest of spaces. The perfect wall color can make larger spaces more appealing, giving the space a feeling of warmth.
The use of white paint throughout your home is a good way to de-personalize the interior of your home and make it appealing to potential buyers. This way they can better visualize their own color palette, fabrics and furniture they have in your space, helping them visualize themselves actually living in your home. In a buyers market, one must give the sellers choices in color, decorate schemes and tastes in a home preference over their own choices if they intend on selling their home as quickly as possible.
The condition of the exterior paint of your house also leaves a lasting impression on a buyer, especially since the outside is the very first thing they see when viewing a home. Peeling exterior paint, damaged wood, and dirty shingles do not make a very good impression on potential buyers. If the trim on the exterior of your home is worn and the paint has started to peel, a thorough touch-up with paint is needed. To match your current color, simply remove a chip of paint and take it to a hardware or paint store. Try using the leftover paint from your last exterior paint job, mix it up and try it in an inconspicuous area. Or, if it is simply too old, go ahead and get a fresh can of paint made up for a good match. Maybe the best thing to do, depending on the condition of your exterior, is to try a completely new and fresh look.
Does it seem like a lot of work to sell your home? Well, it is a lot of work. But, this type of work can teach you a lot about yourself, your own preference for certain colors and challenge your home improvement skills. And what better way to practice decorating your next home then on your current home. The rewards will only benefit your pocketbook and lessen the time and stress in selling your home in the long run.

Canvas Awnings How To Care For Them And Keep Them Good As New
Canvas awnings will last for many years if you take proper care of them. These awnings are made from the finest synthetic fabrics and you should only use water repellent and mildew resistant products when cleaning them. The material used in awnings, even the dome awnings, is mildew resistant, but that doesnt mean that you dont need to clean them. If dirt accumulates on canvas awnings, after a while it will become susceptible to mold and mildew.
Canvas awnings are custom made according to the measurements you provide to the retailer. Canvas dome awnings have a dome shape so that the water from the rain will run right off and not collect in the middle of the awning. The frame for dome awnings is made with powder coated aluminum tubing, which is what gives it the rounded shape. The hardware used for installation is galvanized steel making it rust and corrosion resistant.
You do have to wash the canvas awning material on a regular basis. You can use a mild soap on canvas awnings, but you do need to make sure that you rinse them off thoroughly. There are also special cleaners and disinfectants you can buy for canvas. The retailer from whom you purchase the canvas awning will be able to give you advice as to how to keep the awning clean and the best products to use. It is only easy to clean the underside of canvas dome awnings as well as conventional shaped awnings. Just use your broom to sweep off any bits of dust and dirt.
It is not advisable to install canvas awnings near trees and shrubs. This is because they may contain an acid that is harmful to the canvas awning material. If a defect occurs in the canvas because of your location, the warranty that comes with the awning will no longer be valid. You also have to check the condition of the awning frames. This is especially important with canvas dome awnings. These add to the grace and charm of your home, but if they become discoloured with rust, it can be very unsightly.
When you have canvas awnings, you have to be careful not to roll or unroll them in cold temperatures. This can cause cracks in the canvas. You also have to be careful not to drag the canvas awning material over rough surfaces, such as cement or rocks. Water pooling in pockets on the canvas can cause it to stretch, so after it rains you have to check the canvas awnings and get all the water off of them.

Homeowners sometimes find that their homes are built such that some windows or doors directly face where sunlight and heat are at a maximum. Excessive exposure to the sun is also a concern for decks, the house entrance and patios for specific seasons. In addition, it happens that one gets home and is unable to immediately find the house keys. If the door or front of the house is not adequately covered, fumbling for the keys can be an uncomfortable experience when one is under the hot sun or is being drenched by the rain. These problems can be resolved using canopies or awnings. These protective shades are generally cost-effective and feature lightweight skeletal frames. An awning or canopy can be made from a composite material, fabric or even aluminum, and some come in retractable models with manual or electric control.
1. Canpopies Are Just Plain Enjoyable
Retractable and roll-up canopies give the owner the option of fully extending the shade during summer and rolling it up during the winter. This is ideal particularly for the deck, which many use as comfortable place to take a nap. The shade also allows one to enjoy the outdoors regardless of the season. Some canopies are even wired into the frame, so that homeowners can also use what is effectively extended living space at night.
2. Avoid Having To Pay For As Much Air Conditioning During Summer
Figures from the US Department of Energy show that awnings can lower summer heat on windows facing the south by 65%, while eastern and western facing windows reduce such heat gain as much as 77%. This could, therefore, lower your total electricity bills during summer as you will need to spend less on air conditioning.
3. Reduce Monitor Glare And Protect Windows
The woodwork around windows is also protected from snow and rain by awnings and canopies, while furniture on the porch or patio are also shielded from the elements. Open windows are possible for a home even on rainy days with awnings. PC monitors and television sets near windows on sunny days will benefit from the reduced glare due to the awnings – an indication that the cooling effect of a canopy is not limited to the outside. The extension of this effect indoors has helped some homeowners limit use of air-conditioning during the summer and lower their electric bills.
4. Materials
Homeowners have a choice between outdoor fabric and aluminum as the material for their canopies. Advantages of an aluminum canopy include sturdiness and low-maintenance, although shape and color options are limited. If the shade is made of fabric, it would entail greater care and maintenance, although more colors and shapes are available for this material type. Both alternatives are possible for casement windows. Personal preference and energy efficiency standards are key guides to determining the canopy size and drop, or the amount of shade or coverage provided. The Energy Department sets 65%-75% as the maximum efficiency range for canopies covering windows facing the east and west. For the south-facing side, the agency recommends a lower coverage range of 45%-60%.
5. Style Vs Function
The choice in terms of size will involve a trade-off: some individuals may prefer larger awnings to maximize protection and coverage, while others may prefer smaller ones when more premium is placed on the decorative impact. If emphasis is given to aesthetics, many manufacturers already offer canopies and related accessories in various shapes, designs and colors. It should be noted that coverage by canopies or awnings can be enhanced by using side panels, although these are not necessary. Special canopy models are also in the market for windows that open to the outside.
6. Added Benefits
Some canopies are also designed for easy assembly and portability, making it possible to disassemble and transfer them to areas around the house where they are most needed. These mobile canopies typically feature braces or arms, rollers, horizontal rafters and fabric shades or vinyl blinds and are also applicable to recreational vehicles or trailers. Once the target area for shading is determined, homeowners can establish the ideal canopy width size and the number of sections needed for coverage. Since canopy cuts vary in size, knowing the measurements of the area will help the owner decide on the most cost-effective combinations. Some awning or canopy manufacturers offer track extenders to accommodate slight adjustments in measurement. Once measurement issues are settled, the owner now has the option to pursue installation as a do-it-yourself project or to seek professional assistance from authorized dealers.

Here is a nice fire pit story. A few weeks ago I visited a friend that had just moved into a new house with his family, with not much of a budget he wanted to make the most of his few first months in the new place, he wanted to add something to the house that would give it a personal touch and add an identity to the place, so that the whole family could feel that this is actually the new home and not a replacement for the old house.
The house has been built about 40 years ago, it was in a good condition, the kitchen and the living room has been redone a couple of years ago, and the old lady that lived in the house took excellent care of it, there was not much to be done, or in fact, not much important work to be done. One part of the house was a little let down and that was the patio, and I immediately thought about a patio fire pit when I saw the front of the house.
With a nice, imagery setting from the patio the only thing that was needed is something new to bring some excitement to the place, and that would make everyone enjoy an evening on the patio. I knew form my experience that many people use a patio fire pit as a way to spruce up an otherwise drab looking social setting. A fire pit can be used as the centerpiece of a patio.
I talked with my friends and asked if they will be interested in a patio fire pit, they were interested, but clearly not excited, I took it as a mini project to finish this work before I leave, and considered the essentials for the patio fire pit, space is an issue because a fire pit will be putting out a lot of heat, so if the patio is small, you cant buy a large unit. A simple, small patio fire pit will be a nice addition to this patio. In terms of practicality I needed to think about the sitting area, so the fire pit can set it in the middle of the sitting area, and people will not get too hot.
When we finally went to buy a fire pit, my friends started getting excited, and when all the family helped install it the excitement peaked. I spent the first, gala evening of the patio fire pit with my friends, and left the next day, ever since that day I am getting weekly photos of different social activities and family meetings in the new, much improved part of the house, I think they can thank the patio fire pit.

Ozone Air-Purifiers Eliminate Unwanted Odors And Pollutants From The Air
Ozone air-purifiers are known for their effectiveness of reducing the odors in your room or surrounding spaces. The smells of contaminants like new carpets and acrolein, pet odors and tobacco smoke, bacteria smell and rotten odors can be specially removed through the help of ozone air-purifiers. Ozone is a highly reactive oxidant that aids in the destruction of certain bacteria, chemicals and other contaminants in the air. So the ozone air-purifiers can prove to be truly effective for cleaning the air in the surroundings.
The working of ozone air-purifiers is simple but unique. When ozone reacts with various substances or contaminants in the air, these contaminants are broken down into other materials that are also termed as pollutants. Ozone comprised of three oxygen molecules converts certain contaminants in the air to carbon dioxide, oxygen, water, formic acid and a variety of aldehydes. So the air gets easily purified when cleaned with ozone air-purifiers.
Types of ozone air-purifiers
Ozone air-purifiers are available in two versions: the direct ozone generators and the indirect ozone generators.
1. The direct ozone generators – usually work by producing ozone that filters out some chemicals in the air of the surrounding spaces. The ozone generators are highly effective for removing odors in the bars, reducing burnt smell completely during fire restoration jobs and in removing smells in other major odor issues.
2. The indirect ozone generators these are part of the ionic air purification systems that produce and emit out negatively charged ions into the atmosphere causing the air-chemicals and particles to drop into the grounds and floor surfaces. You can clean off the dust and dirt particles once they are on the grounds, thereby purging the air completely.
But when you are using the ozone air-purifiers you should be quite careful. According to Environmental Protection Agency, ozone has been known for decreasing lung functions and body activities, aggravate asthma and other respiratory ailments, increase cough and chest pain, cause shortness of breath and inflame the lung tissue and increase the susceptibility to respiratory infections.
When you are using it, try to vacate the premises including pets, plant pots, art and other valuable items that are made of rubber. Seal the building and keep the generator running for few days so that all the pollutants, unwanted odors and contaminants gets ventilated. The human health institutions have recommended worldwide that a maximum of outdoor ozone exposure should be 50 to 80 ppb [parts per billion].
Advantages of using ozone air-purifiers
The ozone air-purifiers prove to be truly efficient for the following purposes:
-Protects you from pollutants, contaminants and unwanted microorganisms in the atmosphere.
-Reduces viruses and bacteria from the atmosphere thereby decreasing the spread of diseases like pneumonia, tuberculosis and other diseases.
-Can be installed almost anywhere in the homes because they are portable, lightweight and flexible.
A word of caution suggests that you should limit the use of ozone air-purifiers specially indoor to reduce any ill-effects on the inhabitants. The ozone air-purifiers can be truly effective for outdoor purposes. But for even regular outdoors, check out indirect ozone generators with a low tested emission rate to reduce all possible ill effects on common people.

Why you should choose an LCD TV over a Plasma TV
When it comes to choosing which kind of TV to buy, whether its LCD TV or Plasma TV, consumers always have a hard time deciding. Thats why we will break down everything in order to prove to consumers that an LCD TV is the much better choice over a Plasma TV.
LCD TV and Plasma TV both represent the fast advancing technology that is offering viewers the best in Television viewing. But it doesnt mean that one would cease to try to choose between these two, the better option with regards to quality and money.
There are certain advantages for both LCD TV and Plasma TV but at a careful analysis it has been proven that the LCD TV offers more advantages compared to the strong points of Plasma TV. Here are some of the finer points that the LCD TV has proven to be the better choice. Study each carefully and hopefully it will help you a great deal in choosing what to buy and answer your question Why one should choose an LCD TV over a Plasma TV?
Plasma TV started out with a little advantage over the LCD TV, but with the newer models of LCD TV, it has since catch up and overtaken Plasma TV with regards to picture quality and better contrast. The new LCD TVs now offers a much better color display than Plasma TVs and to add on to that, LCD TVs holds a sizable advantage with its resolution and therefore will offer a greater viewing experience compared to Plasma TV.
When it comes to using LCD TV for game consoles, LCD TVs hold the edge over Plasma TV by having a higher amount of panel resolution, the game images will look more lifelike and will result in a greatly detailed video gaming experience. Also, these advantages of the LCD will also make it possible for texts to appear more visible on screen than the ones in a Plasma TV.
Another clear advantage of LCD TV is the high resolutions that it possess. This provides a more stable image quality that will not cause eye fatigue to viewers even for extended viewing or long hours of watching shows on LCD TV. It is also proven that LCD TVs boasts a much lengthy lifetime compared to Plasma TVs, a study proves that LCD TVs has an average life span of about 50,000 hours compared to the mere 30,000 hours of Plasma TVs.
But the biggest and most important advantages of LCD TV other than the picture quality and lifespan is the cost of LCD TVs compared to Plasma TVs. Naturally, one would expect a much better quality and lifespan for something more expensive but that is not the case with the LCD TV and Plasma TV. LCD TV even though it relatively costs a lot cheaper than Plasma TV, it also offers the best picture quality and possess the longer life span. With all these in mind, its obvious that LCD TV is the best choice over its Plasma counterpart.

Kitchen islands have long been loved for extra cooking and storage space in the kitchen. Now they are available for outdoor cooking and entertaining. An island outside is very functional for cooking and eating outdoors in nice weather. It also eliminates the need for running in and out of the house when cooking in the yard.
Planning Outdoor Kitchen Islands
A summer kitchen is a big investment. You want to spend as much time planning for it as you would for an island in the kitchen. Consider how it will be used and how much use it will get. Consider the climate where you live. Will it be used only in the summer? In some warm climates, an outdoor island may get year round use.
Once you have decided on how the island will be used, take a look at a variety of islands. Pool and patio stores are a great source of information. Many have a variety on display and have brochures with others. See whats available and set a budget for how much you are willing to spend.
Most have a cooking grill that is as good as an indoor range for cooking foods. They are high quality cook tops. The sizes of the grilling area vary. Larger sizes are good when you are cooking for a crowd. Side burners are great for preparing vegetables at the same time as grilling the meats. Multiple zones are great for cooking more than one food. This allows you to use different temperatures for each food.
Grilling Kitchen Island Choices
Grilling islands are available in custom or pre fabricated models. Permanent custom built grilling islands are masonry islands. They are generally made of stone or brick and are a permanent fixture in the yard. They are also very expensive.
The nice thing about custom islands is they can be made to match your home or pool areas. The tiles can match your pool on counter areas. These increase the value of your home. They are a good choice if you plan to use the island frequently and want something that will last for years.
Pre fabricated islands are manufactured in a factory and delivered to your home. You provide the measurements of the cooking surface to be used. Sizes range from a five to six foot rectangular shape and L shaped islands. Round table ends are also available to provide additional space for eating.
There are a variety of finishes, styles and designs available in outdoor kitchens. There are nearly as many options as indoor islands. Durable granite islands or tiled countertops provide function and style. As with custom islands, you can match the tile to your pool and the island to the style of your home. Multiple levels are available for separate cooking and eating areas.
Summer kitchens also provide storage space in cabinets and drawers. This gives you a place to keep cooking utensils and outdoor eating supplies. Storage space makes entertaining easier without having to carry everything outside every time you want to cook.

Butcher-block counter tops and tables give a beautiful effect to any modern kitchen. The woods used include Maple, beech and ash. If you are giving your kitchen a makeover then think about replacing laminate top work surfaces with butcher-block ones. Butcher block is made from strips of wood glued together to look like one solid piece.
The natural variation present in any wood gives interest and beauty to the surface. Work surfaces made from solid wood are never going to date, they just ooze quality and you do away with all the disadvantages of laminates. No more scratches, no more scorch marks or stains.
Maintenance of butcher-block tables and surfaces is what concerns most people. More maintenance is required than for marble, granite or laminate. Wood is porous, so the surface should never be left wet. Bacteria from meat and other foodstuffs will flourish if the surface is not cleaned adequately after each use.
Wash down with a dilute dishwashing solution after every use, then rinse this off and dry the wood thoroughly. After cutting meat or chicken on your butcher-block surface you should wash the surface with a 10% solution of a chlorine-based bleach. Leave the bleach on the surface for 10-15 minutes, then rinse and allow it to dry.
You will need to oil the surface with clear paraffin oil occasionally, just wipe the surface with a little oil on a cloth, leave it for about an hour, then wipe off any excess oil.
It is not a good idea to cut on your surface because it will soon be damaged, no matter what coating is applied. Buy a butcher block chopping board for this purpose, treat it in the same way, but the cutting board is easily replaced or sanded down and resealed if it is damaged.

What do you need to set up your own home-entertainment system?
So if youve decided that you want to take the plunge and install a home entertainment system in your house, exactly what equipment should you get? This can be complicated, especially when it comes to hooking it all up, but as long as you do a little research before you buy anything you should be fine.
The first thing you need is your screen: that is, either a TV or a projector. For most people, a large plasma or LCD TV will probably be best true enthusiasts might want to try a projector, but they tend to have all sorts of problems, not least of which is finding a wall big enough and empty enough to project onto effectively.
The next thing you need is the DVD player, which should be a high-quality model, not some cheap one from the supermarket. You might think that all DVD players were created equal when it comes to picture and sound quality, but thats just not true there is a notable difference in quality when it comes to high-end models.
You will also want a surround sound system, to make it seem like the sound is filling the room and coming from all directions. There is almost no limit to how much you can spend on sound, so dont go too far overboard stick to a reasonably basic surround sound configuration, instead of getting a very high-end one that requires you to mount huge numbers of speakers all over your room.
Finally, silly as it might sound, a very important part of your equipment is the cables that you use to hook it all together. Cheap cables will cause some of the picture and sound quality to be lost in transmission between the different devices, while better quality cables will produce a notable difference. Again, dont go too far and spend ridiculous amounts on golden cables, but dont skimp on it either.
