Tablets PCs to Bring Virtual Chefs to Your Home

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I must confess that I enjoy spending some time in the kitchen. The only problem is that without a step by step guide by my side my pancakes tend to end up like scones while my scones end up like, well, pancakes actually.

What I need is a chef in my kitchen to help me out. While the thought of Gordon Ramsay bellowing in my ear and turning the air blue is enough to make me hang up my spatula for good I am sure that there must be other options.

Cooking with Technology

As well as being a decently average cook I am also a bit of technology fan. I tried using my PC to look up recipes and then use them. The problem is that my computer won’t fit in the kitchen and the cooker won’t fit in my bedroom. This means that I need to either print off all of the recipes I am interested in and store them somewhere or else write them down before I plan to do them. That sounds like a bit of a hassle to be honest, and while it is what I have been doing for the last while I was glad to finally get a different option.

I treated myself to a tablet PC lately and was immediately wowed by the size and style of it. For something so powerful it looks great and takes up very little space. I am still working out what I can do with it (besides taking it on my cruise from Southampton) but I was very interested to see the range of cooking applications around.

Whether you have an Apple device or an Android one, and whether you prefer Jamie Oliver, the aforementioned Ramsay or someone else, you will find a good range of apps to choose from. Some of these are really cheap while others bring a top class virtual chef into your kitchen at no cost at all.

Anyone for Asparagus Soufflé?

Of course, the first thing I did was take my tablet into the kitchen and start whipping up a treat. I won’t mention the name of the dish I was making, as it might sound too pretentious. Ok then, it was an asparagus soufflé now that you ask. Needless to say, it turned into the best dish I have ever cooked and I was hooked on this new method of learning.

Then I had an ever better thought. I don’t even need to restrict the learning of new recipes to the times when I am in the kitchen. I can also pick up new ideas at any time and anywhere.

Tablet PCs are highly portable and I have started taking mine on the commute to work with me. As the train pulls out of the station I already have my head buried in a new recipe. In fact, for the first time I am actually pleased when there is a delay and I get to read a bit more. Another couple of weeks of this and I reckon I’ll be applying for my first Michelin star.

Sofa Throws with a French Influence

Friday, February 10th, 2012

It’s the first real cold snap of the year, even though we are already in February, and we are all trying to keep warm and cosy at home, rather than venturing out in the evenings. We know that we have to set foot into the cold during the day but when we get back after a hard days work and are ready to relax, why don’t we try and do so in style?

A luxurious fur or wool sofa throw will definitely keep the chills at bay, and can also add a stylish new angle to your living room or bedroom. We particularly admire the French for their chic approach to fashion, both in and out of the home, which got us thinking who our favourite designers are.

Obviously we could now site and recite a very long list of renowned, French fashion houses, but for today we settled on Thierry Mugler. Why? He has a very exciting and futuristic approach to French couture, from a career which was founded back in the 1970’s in Paris; However, he focuses on looking forward with his designs, rather than basing his look on the past, like many designers tend to, and has been labeled ‘the prophet of futurism’ by many fashionistas today.

Thierry Mugler’s style is extremely distinctive, as it portrays structured elegance, and is often worn by strong, stylish women and men. For women he tends towards 2 piece creations, like a skirt and jacket ensemble, which are cut to emphasise the wearer’s body shape especially around the waist and hips, and he tries to create the perfect body, which we love!

So next time you’re thinking about what has influenced the look of items around you, look no further than across the channel for a clue.

Few factors to consider on bathroom storage

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

An unclean bathroom is the last thing you want in your house, may it be early in the morning when you are getting dressed to office or in the evening when you want to take a hot bath at the end of a very tiring day. What makes a bathroom messy are the different items that lie here and there like the bottles of shampoo, medicines, creams, ointments, etc. This is the main reason why an efficient bathroom storage system is necessary for any house.

Bathroom storage is not just a means to keep things inside a bathroom; in fact, today, bathroom cabinets are not only for storage purposes but they are also used for decorative purposes. If your whole house is a designer one with style, grace and elegance, shouldn’t that reflect in the bathrooms as well? Of course, it should. This is certainly another reason to find an effectual bathroom storage solution for your house.

Like shelves and cabinets for your bathrooms, storage spaces have to be chosen after considering different factors regarding the bathroom. First aspect to consider is the size of the bathroom. Today there are many large cabinets of various sizes and shapes and different styles to suit your bathrooms.

If the bathrooms are smaller in size, wall cabinets are much better. In such areas, storage spaces on the walls give more space on the floor. If you are sharing the bathroom with another person, you might need to share the cabinet as well, for two shelves even on the wall could make the bathroom quite congested.

Another important aspect to consider about bathroom storage spaces is whether they should have doors or not. This would again depend on the size of the bathroom. In a tiny room, opening the cabinet door can take up more space and make your position very difficult. It is much better if you have open cabinets here because anything valuable could be stored in your bedroom. But if you have a larger bathroom then you could go ahead and have one with doors.

Next factor is the number of items you wish to store inside the bathroom. If there are plenty of items you would need a larger storage space with shelves and drawers to store items in separate categories like bathing products, beauty products, make-up products, medicines, toiletries, etc. If you need a mirror in the bathroom you would then have to consider the space for the mirror while getting the cabinets. Most often, cabinet doors would come with mirrors, which would help you save space as both would occupy the same area.

Finding the right type of cabinets is quite easy now with so many providers both online and offline. You can easily search for the ones you want right from your home and give your specifications. Most providers would install the cabinets for you as well, making things lot easier for you. Whether you are planning to get a new house or you are looking to revamp the old one, bathroom storage space is one important factor that requires due consideration for a neat and beautiful bathroom where you can relax.
