There are times when it is almost impossible to find the perfect gift and nothing seems to come to mind. From wedding presents to housewarming gifts and even something a bit different for Christmas and anniversaries, you can’t go wrong with authentic Irish Linen tea and kitchen cosies. Whether you live in the UK or abroad, Irish Linen is a rare commodity these days and there are few companies still in business with more than a century of craftsmanship to boast of.
Ulster Weavers have been in business since 1880 and have even earned the highest respect of being bestowed the Royal Warrant for providing products to the Royal Family for a period greater than five years. This is an honour which is not easily earned and one that Ulster Weaving Company is extremely proud of. When looking for a gift fit for a king (or a queen in this case!) you can find no better gift than one crafted by an authentic Northern Ireland based company with a very long history indeed.
Actually, there are collections which include more than just Ulster Weavers tea towels and cosies. Amongst the most popular are the cat collections but don’t forget that this is the year the Olympics come to the UK and there is an exciting London 2012 full range collection to consider. Of course there are also contemporary, floral & fruit, animal and children’s collections which might strike your fancy so have a browse around.
The site is well organised which makes it easy to find and purchase the perfect gift for that very special occasion. It’s the beginning of a whole new year which means that you have ample time to find gifts for every holiday, birthday and special occasion still just over the horizon. You will not be disappointed by the wide array of traditional Irish Linen gifts, some with a contemporary flare, available at Ulster Weavers – and the best part of all is that they ship worldwide. What could be more convenient?

I must confess that I enjoy spending some time in the kitchen. The only problem is that without a step by step guide by my side my pancakes tend to end up like scones while my scones end up like, well, pancakes actually.
What I need is a chef in my kitchen to help me out. While the thought of Gordon Ramsay bellowing in my ear and turning the air blue is enough to make me hang up my spatula for good I am sure that there must be other options.
Cooking with Technology
As well as being a decently average cook I am also a bit of technology fan. I tried using my PC to look up recipes and then use them. The problem is that my computer won’t fit in the kitchen and the cooker won’t fit in my bedroom. This means that I need to either print off all of the recipes I am interested in and store them somewhere or else write them down before I plan to do them. That sounds like a bit of a hassle to be honest, and while it is what I have been doing for the last while I was glad to finally get a different option.
I treated myself to a tablet PC lately and was immediately wowed by the size and style of it. For something so powerful it looks great and takes up very little space. I am still working out what I can do with it but I was very interested to see the range of cooking applications around.
Whether you have an Apple device or an Android one, and whether you prefer Jamie Oliver, the aforementioned Ramsay or someone else, you will find a good range of apps to choose from. Some of these are really cheap while others bring a top class virtual chef into your kitchen at no cost at all.
Anyone for Asparagus Soufflé?
Of course, the first thing I did was take my tablet into the kitchen and start whipping up a treat. I won’t mention the name of the dish I was making, as it might sound too pretentious. Ok then, it was an asparagus soufflé now that you ask. Needless to say, it turned into the best dish I have ever cooked and I was hooked on this new method of learning.
Then I had an ever better thought. I don’t even need to restrict the learning of new recipes to the times when I am in the kitchen. I can also pick up new ideas at any time and anywhere.
Tablet PCs are highly portable and I have started taking mine on the commute to work with me. As the train pulls out of the station I already have my head buried in a new recipe. In fact, for the first time I am actually pleased when there is a delay and I get to read a bit more. Another couple of weeks of this and I reckon I’ll be applying for my first Michelin star.

We have searched through time to gather information about traditional rug making. We have spent time in ancient china, Persia , Morocco and Turkey but all of the rugs seen in those places we have seen emulated in the 20th and 21st century by intelligent collectors, preservers and retailers who, working with the country of origin, find weavers who can still make rugs using the traditional methods. These methods are then employed to make custom rugs to the very particular requirements of a client.
Watching the care taken by these guardians of traditional arts I could imagine that these rugs were still being made for Persian Shahs, English Queens or Indian Moguls. That they were actually being manufactured to fit into the plan of an interior designer certainly highlighted the changing social stratum between pre 20th and post 20th century societies. The top strata had not been removed but were smaller in number.
In the 21st century they had also, at last become aware of human impact on the environment and so these rug makers were using the cleanest and most sustainable of traditional and modern materials and techniques. Perhaps the clients ordering these custom made rugs were more environmentally aware and so chose their rugs from people like Doris Leslie Blau for that reason. I only hope they were as careful with the rest of their interior decorating materials and as aware of their impact on the Earth in the rest of their lives.

Why you should choose an LCD TV over a Plasma TV
When it comes to choosing which kind of TV to buy, whether its LCD TV or Plasma TV, consumers always have a hard time deciding. Thats why we will break down everything in order to prove to consumers that an LCD TV is the much better choice over a Plasma TV.
LCD TV and Plasma TV both represent the fast advancing technology that is offering viewers the best in Television viewing. But it doesnt mean that one would cease to try to choose between these two, the better option with regards to quality and money.
There are certain advantages for both LCD TV and Plasma TV but at a careful analysis it has been proven that the LCD TV offers more advantages compared to the strong points of Plasma TV. Here are some of the finer points that the LCD TV has proven to be the better choice. Study each carefully and hopefully it will help you a great deal in choosing what to buy and answer your question Why one should choose an LCD TV over a Plasma TV?
Plasma TV started out with a little advantage over the LCD TV, but with the newer models of LCD TV, it has since catch up and overtaken Plasma TV with regards to picture quality and better contrast. The new LCD TVs now offers a much better color display than Plasma TVs and to add on to that, LCD TVs holds a sizable advantage with its resolution and therefore will offer a greater viewing experience compared to Plasma TV.
When it comes to using LCD TV for game consoles, LCD TVs hold the edge over Plasma TV by having a higher amount of panel resolution, the game images will look more lifelike and will result in a greatly detailed video gaming experience. Also, these advantages of the LCD will also make it possible for texts to appear more visible on screen than the ones in a Plasma TV.
Another clear advantage of LCD TV is the high resolutions that it possess. This provides a more stable image quality that will not cause eye fatigue to viewers even for extended viewing or long hours of watching shows on LCD TV. It is also proven that LCD TVs boasts a much lengthy lifetime compared to Plasma TVs, a study proves that LCD TVs has an average life span of about 50,000 hours compared to the mere 30,000 hours of Plasma TVs.
But the biggest and most important advantages of LCD TV other than the picture quality and lifespan is the cost of LCD TVs compared to Plasma TVs. Naturally, one would expect a much better quality and lifespan for something more expensive but that is not the case with the LCD TV and Plasma TV. LCD TV even though it relatively costs a lot cheaper than Plasma TV, it also offers the best picture quality and possess the longer life span. With all these in mind, its obvious that LCD TV is the best choice over its Plasma counterpart.

What do you need to set up your own home-entertainment system?
So if youve decided that you want to take the plunge and install a home entertainment system in your house, exactly what equipment should you get? This can be complicated, especially when it comes to hooking it all up, but as long as you do a little research before you buy anything you should be fine.
The first thing you need is your screen: that is, either a TV or a projector. For most people, a large plasma or LCD TV will probably be best true enthusiasts might want to try a projector, but they tend to have all sorts of problems, not least of which is finding a wall big enough and empty enough to project onto effectively.
The next thing you need is the DVD player, which should be a high-quality model, not some cheap one from the supermarket. You might think that all DVD players were created equal when it comes to picture and sound quality, but thats just not true there is a notable difference in quality when it comes to high-end models.
You will also want a surround sound system, to make it seem like the sound is filling the room and coming from all directions. There is almost no limit to how much you can spend on sound, so dont go too far overboard stick to a reasonably basic surround sound configuration, instead of getting a very high-end one that requires you to mount huge numbers of speakers all over your room.
Finally, silly as it might sound, a very important part of your equipment is the cables that you use to hook it all together. Cheap cables will cause some of the picture and sound quality to be lost in transmission between the different devices, while better quality cables will produce a notable difference. Again, dont go too far and spend ridiculous amounts on golden cables, but dont skimp on it either.

For many years, the technology that allowed you to sit in your home and watch audio and video was based on a tube technology. Very basically, light was shined into a tube which then projected the image onto the screen of your television set. The technology behind the plasma TV screen isnt so very much different in some respects, but is very different in others.
First, keep in mind that plasma TV screens arent a new idea. Almost as long as people have had the power to watch television, there have been those with the idea for plasma television. It was during the 1960s that a college professor created the first plasma TV screen, though manufacturers werent anxious to pursue the technology until much more recently.
The technology is based on a series of very small lights. The lights are fluorescent and each pixel has three colors red, green and blue. The lights are illuminated based on the code of the image being received so that the viewer sees a series of lights that form an image.
Plasma TVs have nothing to do with blood. In this case, plasma is a gas. The gas in its neutral state is stagnant. When electricity is introduced into the situation, these particles become active and light is released. The process is very fast, making it possible for pictures to be updated quickly so that you have the impression of a moving image when watching the television.
There are some other technologies that have been tried along the way. The liquid display screen works in a very similar manner and the result is a quality picture, though some argue that the plasma TV is the ultimate viewing experience.
One of the most beneficial points of the plasma TV is the fact that the layers needed to make this technology work are very thin, resulting in a television screen that is mere inches thick. Even for a very large screen, the thickness of the layers changes little, meaning the screens are easy to handle, mount and view.
Theres no doubt that technology will continue to develop as new people have better ideas for bringing audio and video into our homes. But when you see the crisp clear images of a plasma TV, its rather difficult to imagine how it could get any better than this.

You may be surprised at just how tuned in to TV many Americans really are. A recent survey found that not only do half of all Americans want a plasma television, but many of them will go to great lengths to get one. Here’s a closer look:
She Said
Forget chocolate, it seems that women are craving their favorite shows in high definition. A third of women said they would give up chocolate for 12 months in exchange for a plasma television.
He Said
Forty percent of men surveyed said they would endure a 48-hour “chick flick” marathon, if it meant they would be rewarded with a plasma television. One-fifth of the men surveyed said they would give up all sports-related activities: watching, playing and reading about their favorite sports and athletic heroes.
So why are plasmas so popular? Experts say the TVs’ crisp images, vibrant colors and sleek designs tend to appeal to both men and women. For instance, the Pioneer PureVision plasma television features technologies known as Deep Encased Cell Structure, Crystal Emissive Layer and PureDrive II. They help enhance brightness, create richer, deeper blacks and improve video processing. In short, they create a sharp, bright, accurate picture-something that both genders seem to appreciate.
If you plan to purchase a plasma anytime soon, Pioneer suggests taking the following factors into account:
Size
Forty- to 65-inch plasma displays are usually well-suited for viewing high-definition content in a primary home theater.
Brightness
Brightness should be consistent from different angles. Try to see the TV you are considering in a lighting environment similar to your home.
Sharpness
Lines and edges should be sharp and clean without trails. Make sure the sharpness holds up in dark or fast-moving scenes.
Color
Colors should be true-to-life, not cartoonlike. You should see detail and subtle gradations in the color.
Details
You should be able to see picture details such as blades of grass, pens in shirt pockets and individual faces in a crowd.
